Alternate 50 star flag?
[edit]I saw this image in a display at the immigration museum on Ellis Island, in November 2024. I'm guessing it was never used as a flag, and was just an artist's impression from the time, used in a Hawaiian newspaper. Initially, I thought it was 7x7 with 49 stars, then noticed that the middle row has 8 stars, so it's 7-7-7-8-7-7-7 for 50 stars.
I just thought it might be worth a mention, in case it had any prominence, and was just overlooked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcrafti (talk • contribs) 00:47, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's similar to some US flags used before 1912, but I doubt that there was much chance of it ever becoming the official 50-star flag design, since it lacks visual balance... AnonMoos (talk) 00:47, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
Which United States?
[edit]Is this about the United States of Belgium, the United States of Brazil, the United States of Colombia, the United States of Venezuela, or the United States of America? Considering it's apparently about the United States of America, why does the page have the incorrect name of "Flag of the United States"? Should the page for, say, the Republic of Korea be renamed to just say "the Republic", or the page for Russia renamed to "the Federation"? 2A02:3035:6E0:BBC:41D6:2DB0:8007:7F1A (talk) 10:50, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- This article follows the terminological conventions of the main United States article, so you need to complain at Talk:United States, not here... AnonMoos (talk) 13:45, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
Colors (again...)
[edit]"The current internal style guide of the State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs specifies PMS 282C blue and PMS 193C red, and gives RGB and CMYK conversions generated by Adobe InDesign."
I haven't found a single conversion program that turns PMS 193C into #B31942 or PMS 282C into #0A3161. It's not uncommon for designers to specifically choose different shades for differing mediums. Is there any evidence that the RGB/CMYK values in the DoS guide were specifically converted from Pantone? (I bring this up in part because there have been arguments before where the credibility of the DoS docs was attacked with arguments that "random staffers" were being unspecific, and this phrasing, which has no source and may well be false, also seems to fit that messaging.) If it's accurate, can we cite a source, and if it's not, can we alter/strike it? TheTaraStark (talk) 20:57, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
- Should we not use the Pantone color as most countries do here on Wikipedia File:Flag of the United States (DoS ECA Color Standard) (Pantone).svg .....or the one recommended by the department itself for digital consumption File:Flag of the United States (DoS ECA Color Standard).svg Moxy🍁 21:04, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
